Precious gemstones miner Gemfields revealed Friday the Zambia’s Revenue Authority (ZRA) had served the company with two search warrants for its Kagem emerald mine, as part of a probe into alleged tax evasion.

The Mozambican Tax Authority revealed on Tuesday that megaprojects, the mining industry and the oil industry contributed less revenue to the state’s coffers in the first half of the year than last year.

The Mozambican government has commissioned an audit of Anadarko and ENI’s operating costs in their LNG operations, following allegations that the companies were inflating their recoverable costs in the Rovuma basin. The audit began on 2 April, 2018, and is expected to be completed in December of this year.

The Tax Authority (AT) of Mozambique is negotiating the payment of taxes on capital gains with several international groups, such as Brazil’s Vale, said the president of AT quoted in the Monday edition of daily newspaper O País.

The sharp drop in the price of coal on the international market led to Vale Moçambique posting a loss of US$44 million in the first quarter of 2014, and the company’s director, Pedro Gutemberg called on the Mozambican government to “consider a tax reduction,” as a way of helping reduce the costs of the mining operation.
