Africa Mining: Anglo American Calls for Better Mining Regulations in South Africa

Norman Mbazima, deputy chairman of major diversified miner Anglo American (LSE:AAL), had strong words for South African regulators on Monday (February 5).  Speaking at a keynote address at this year’s Cape Town-based Mining Indaba conference, Mbazima focused on “what is required to encourage investment back into South Africa’s mining industry,” suggesting that it is a topic that needs “an honest airing.”

Africa Mining Industry: Workers strike at Anglo’s coal mine in South Africa

Members of South Africa’s National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) downed tools Wednesday at Anglo American’s (LON:AAL) Kleinkopje coal mine in South Africa, demanding the removal of the general manager. “They are on strike as we speak,” NUM spokesman Livhuwani Mammburu told Reuters, adding that 421 of its members were involved in the labour action.
