Mozambique and Algeria to develop energy partnership

Mozambican delegation led by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Max Tonela, is on a six-day official working visit (26 to 31 May) to the Republic of Algeria, with the aim of exploring opportunities for cooperation between the two countries, based on the agreements reached in February during the stay of the head of state, Filipe Nyusi, in that country.

According to a statement released on Tuesday 28 May by the Clube de Mozambique, the Mozambican leaders were received in audience by the Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, who stressed that the meeting represents a significant step towards promoting stronger bilateral relations and stimulating joint economic interests.

Over the next few days, businesspeople and government officials from both nations will discuss and develop partnerships in the energy sector, particularly following the memorandum of understanding signed last February.

‘The delegation’s visit is expected to include high-level discussions and site visits to key energy and industrial facilities, facilitating a comprehensive understanding of potential collaborative ventures,’ the document said.

‘Algeria aims to expand its international partnerships and leverage the energy sector to boost economic development. Mozambique, with its growing energy sector and economic potential, is seen as a strategic partner in this endeavour,’ he stressed.
