Mozambique Mining: Kenmare Resources reports 3% increase in minerals exports
The production at a heavy sands project in Moma in northern Mozambique, recorded a 3.0 percent increase in the first half of the year, Irish company Kenmare Resources said Monday in a statement quoted by Macauhub news agency.
The company said that production in the first six months of the year at its operation in Mozambique was undermined by failures in the electricity supply system, which totalled 57 days in the first quarter and were sporadic in the second quarter, as well as by a wildcat strike in June.
During the reporting period Kenmare Resources exported 412,000 tons of ores, compared to 399,000 in the first half of 2014, with ilmenite production falling 27 percent to 324,100 tons and zircon increasing by 11 percent to 23,800 tons.
Rutile production remained unchanged year on year at 2,800 tons.
Kenmare Resources also said that the prices of minerals that the company sells remained practically unchanged in the period.
