Mozambique Logistics: Vale diverts its coal exports to Nacala-a-Velha terminal

Vale Mocambique SA, the largest coal exporter company at Beira Port, has decided to switch all its exports to Nacala-a-Velha leading to decline by more than half of mineral exports via central Mozambican port of Beira.

Starting in 2018, coal handling in Northern corridor in Mozambique will increase from 8 million to 22 million tonnes per year as a result of three addenda to contracts of the Nacala Logistic Corridor (CLN) and the Northern Development Corridor (CDN).

Exports via the port of Nacala, in Mozambique’s Nampula province, of coal mined in Tete province are scheduled to begin in December of this year, according to information given at the 32nd Coordinating Council of the Mozambican Transport and Communications Ministry.
