Africa Energy: Half of Angola people to have access to electricity from 2022

From 2022, about 50% of Angola’s population will have access to electricity, Luanda’s energy and water minister, João Baptista Borges, said in Luanda.

The minister also said that in the next five years an average of 200,000 home electrical connections will be made per year.

“The goal of 200 thousand connections could be reached with the completion of the works of the major hydroelectric projects, namely Laúca and Cáculo Cabaça and the Soyo combined cycle plant, as well as other ongoing investments,” he said.

Borges said that by 2025, the goal is to reach 7,500 megawatts, through the Laúca, Cáculo Cabaça, projects along the Kwanza river, Catumbela, Cunene, among other investments that will be carried out in Angola and aimed at increasing public energy.

For power transmission, the project to interconnect the northern system with the centre of the country (Huambo and Bié) is in progress until the end of this year. The connection of Kwanza Norte and Benguela is also due to be concluded by June 2019. (macauhub)
