Mozambique Oil & Gas: Sasol, Eni signs exploration contracts for PT5-C, A5-A blocks
As part of the Mozambican government’s fifth licensing round, the National Petroleum Institute today signs two oil and gas prospecting and exploration contracts relating to areas PT5-C and A5-A with Sasol and Eni.
South Africa’s Sasol is prospecting in the 3,000 square kilometre onshore PT5-C area in Inhambane province’s Pande and Temane regions in the centre of the country, where it already extracts natural gas.
Italy’s Eni consortium is prospecting in the 5,000 square kilometres offshore A5-A area in Angoche, Nampula province, in the north of the country.
Another Eni-led consortium, in partnership with ExxonMobil, will start producing liquid natural gas in 2022 off the northern tip of the Cabo Delgado province using a floating platform currently under construction.
Today’s signing ceremony is the second concerning the six areas awarded in the fifth licensing round. On October 8, the Mozambican government and a consortium led by North American multinational ExxonMobil signed contracts for three other oil and gas prospecting concessions. Source:Lusa
