Mozambique Oil & Gas: Govt gets ready for new exploration activities with ExxonMobil

The Mozambican government has announced that it is preparing for new oil and gas exploration activities in the north of the country in tandem with oil company ExxonMobil.

In addition to the blocks already in the investment phase, hydrocarbon research is scheduled for the Angoche area of northern Mozambique’s Nampula province and could start shortly, a government source quoted today by Radio Mozambique has said.

The issue was discussed at a meeting between the President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique and an ExxonMobil team in New York this week, during the head of state visit to the UN General Assembly.

The participation of the North American oil company in Mozambique’s natural gas exploration started in 2017 with the purchase of ENI’s participation in Area 4 of the Rovuma Basin.

Its first project in that area, Coral Sul, is expected to start producing from 2022 at the rate of 3.4 million tons per year, while another Rovuma LNG project in Mamba zone is expected to start in 2024 and produce 4.5 times as much again. source:Lusa
