In partnership with Anadarko, the operator of the Mozambique Area 1 liquid natural gas project, the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) is hosting a seminar on Local Opportunities in Pemba, Cabo Delgado on Friday (August 10).

The aim of the seminar is to inform Mozambican companies about business opportunities accompanying the implementation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in Mozambique. The event will be chaired by President Nyusi, and will be attended by Max Tonela, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, and Mitchell W. Ingram, Executive Vice President of International, Deepwater and Exploration at Anadarko Petroleum Corporation.

This seminar responds to the need to build a platform that informs the business sector about the windows of opportunity created by the Anadarko project, which represents the largest foreign investment in Mozambique and one of the largest in Africa as a whole.

The seminar is intended to inform small and medium-sized enterprises about the general requirements and conditions for providing services to natural gas project partners.

The event, which takes place at the Avani Pemba Beach Hotel, will showcase the government’s presentation on its Local Content strategy for Mozambique. Anadarko will then provide detailed information on the business opportunities, training plans and recruitment requirements foreseen in the first five years of the project.

There will also be a presentation on “How to do business with Anadarko” aimed at SMEs, who will have an opportunity to express their interest and find out how to meet requirements for participation in the project.

The event also has an exhibition featuring 62 national companies which demonstrates the potential for providing local content to multinational mining companies.

This is the first of a series of local content seminars to take place at the national level. Further events are planned for Beira, Nampula, Nacala, Maputo, Palma and Tete.
