Africa Mining: Lucapa Diamond extracts another large diamond in Angola

The Lucapa Diamond Company continues to extract large diamonds at the Lulo mining concession in Angola, the latest being a 114-carat stone, the eleventh diamond to date and the third of this year with more than 100 carats (20 grams) mined in that region, the Australian company said in a statement released on Wednesday.

The company announced last week that it had extracted 118 special diamonds in the first half of 2018, including a 49-carat pink diamond, the largest coloured diamond ever found in that concession area.

The Australian company is the operator of Sociedade Mineira do Lulo, with a stake of 40%, and its partners are the state-owned Empresa Nacional de Prospecção, Exploração, Lapidação & Comercialização de Diamantes de Angola (Endiama), with 32% and Angolan private company Rosas & Pétalas with 28%.

The Lucapa Diamond Company is also present in Lesotho where it has a 70% stake in the Mothae project, located 5 kilometres from the Gem Diamonds’ Letšeng mine, where a 910-carat diamond (182 grams) was extracted in February, the fifth largest ever found anywhere in the world. (macauhub)
