Mozambique Energy: Technical intervention caused central and north regions blackout

Substation_electricityA technical intervention at the Cahora Bassa dam power plant caused a blackout of about five hours on Tuesday in central and northern Mozambique, the company announced today.

“This interruption was caused by an unforeseen disturbance that occurred in the current work process, aimed at modernizing the servers of the control system of the generator sets of the company,” the Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric Company (HCB) announced in a statement.

“The modernization of the servers has been developed with the technical intervention of the equipment manufacturer, General Electric,” reads the document.

The blackout happened at 5:22 p.m. and the resumption of power supply started about five hours later, adds the communique.

Besides Mozambique (EDM), power supply to South Africa (Eskom) and Zimbabwe (Zeza) was affected.
