Up to 25% of the natural gas extracted should be earmarked for the domestic market, in order to stimulate industrialisation, Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario told parliament on 30 November. He called for “the promotion of national content, through linkages between the large oil and gas projects and small and medium Mozambican enterprises, in order to maximise benefits in generating employment and income”. The Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy will this month choose a consultant to advise on pricing of gas for the three projects already approved – Yara fertilizer, Shell gas-to-liquids, and a power station – and advise on developing downstream industry.
