ENI will build two solar PV plants in Ghana, one in Tamale and the other will be in the Volta Basin. The Italian firm has already signed a MoU with Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) which has granted land for the project. It is also currently in discussions with power authorities, namely Bui Power, Volta River Authority, and Ghana Grid Company.

The first solar PV plant in Tamale will have a generating capacity of 20 MW. The second, for which feasibility studies are in progress, is a floating solar power plant to be installed in the Volta Basin.

The implementation of these projects is part of the energy policy of Ghana which plans to increase to 10%, the share of renewable energy other than hydropower in its energy mix, by 2020.
