Africa Renewables: Ethiopia Biomass Plant Goes Online in December

Ethiopia expects to see its first biomass power plant to be operational by December. According to reports out of the country, the infrastructure for the biomass plant is currently over 94% complete.

The plant will have a 50 MW capacity and is located in the capital of Addis Ababa.

The plant will process waste from the country largest dump, which covers over 5.3 hectares, and is being built at a cost of $118.5 million.

The project was developed by British firm Cambridge Industries Limited and the China Electrical Engineering Company (CNEEC), Xinhua reports. It will prevent the emission of 46,494 tons of greenhouse gases every year.
