Press Release: Soma Oil & Gas executive quits to become Somalia’s Prime Minister

Hassan Ali Khaire (48), a dual citizen of Norway and Somalia, was appointed Prime Minister of Somalia by President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed yesterday.

Soma Oil & Gas has announced the resignation of Hassan Khaire, its Executive Director for Africa, so he can accept the honour of serving his country of origin, Somalia, as its Prime Minister. Mr Khaire has resigned from the Board and has relinquished all his shares in the Company.

Hassan Khaire has been a highly valued member of its management team but we fully understand his decision and wish him every success in his new role.

Mr Khaire has worked with the Company since its inception in 2013 and prior to that worked as the Director for the Norwegian Refugee Council for Somalia and East Africa. The Somali people and the President have an exceptional person as their new Prime Minister.

Lord Michael Howard of Lympne, Chairman of Soma, said:

‘Although we will miss Hassan’s wise and knowledgeable participation on the Board, we are delighted that his dedication to Somalia and his contribution to the recovery of his country is being recognised.  We wish him great success in his role as Prime Minister of Somalia.’

Richard Anderson, Chief Executive of Soma, said:

‘I congratulate Hassan on his appointment as the Prime Minister of Somalia. His outstanding character and sense of duty makes him eminently suitable for this important position.'(Source: Soma Oil & Gas)
