The city of Nacala, northern Mozambique, from 12 to 15 September will this year host the first edition of the International Precious Stones Fair, said the Nampula provincial director of Mineral Resources.

Olavo Deniasse said that the fair, which is expected to be annual, aims to “enhance mining by national operators, which are internally not finding space to market their production,” according to Mozambican daily newspaper Noticias.

“The event will also serve as a place for the different actors dealing with materials related to mining, including precious metals and their derivatives to exhibit and sell their products,” added the provincial director of Mineral Resources.

The choice of Nacala for the first edition of the International Precious Stones Fair, according to Deniasse, was due to the city having a deep water port and more recently have a new international airport, “enough conditions to attract national and international operators to exhibit their products.”

The international gem fair will be hosted before the commemoration of the days of the city of Nacala and the Island of Mozambique, which are celebrated on 16 and 17 September, respectively. (source: Noticias, macauhub/MZ)
